What makes a cannabis plant a mother?

"The female cannabis plant produces the budding flowers that will eventually contain all of the medically beneficial cannabinoids and other terpenes. During the breeding process, the flowers of the mother plant are pollinated using a male plant, resulting in an offspring with qualities from both parental strains.

Female plants produce seeds that will produce both male and female plants. Genetic clones can be cut off of the mother plant and grown with the same genetics as the mother. Clones are all female (as they share genetics with their mother), allowing breeders to maintain a single mother and experiment with future strain possibilities."
